Manny's Choice French Bread

This recipe produces two crusty and chewy loaves that are so very good and so much better than store bought.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups warm water
  • 1 egg white
  • 1 1/2 tablespoon yeast
  • 3 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 3/4 teaspoons salt
  • 4 - 5 cups Manny's Choice Flour

Instructions
 

  •  In the base of a mixing bowl, add water, sugar, and yeast. Mix Lightly.
  • Let sit for about 10 minutes until foamy.
  •  Add 2 cups of flour. Add salt and oil, mix using a paddle mixer.
  • Continue to add about 1 cup at of flour at a time until the dough is smooth and not sticky.
  • Transfer the dough to an oiled bowl. Turn the dough until it is lightly covered in oil.
  • Cover bowl with plastic wrap or a bread towel, and let sit until it doubles in size (about an hour)
  • Preheat over to 385 Degrees
  • Remove dough and place on a floured surface
  • Divide in half and form 2 long loafs
  • Place on 2 baking sheets either oiled or lined with parchment paper
  •  Cut about 3-4 diagonal slits in the top of eachloaf
  •  Brush tops with egg whites
  •  Let sit for about 30 minutes
  • Place in oven and cook for 16-20 minutes until tops are golden brown – if you tap the top is should sound hollow.
  •  Enjoy!

Hints

  • Place a pan with a few ice cubes on the bottom oven rack when placing bread into the oven if you would like a crispier crust.
  • Brush with olive oil or butter when it comes out of the over (Optional)
