Our Story

Cooking and eating delicious, real food has always been a passion for founder Cindy Anderson. It led her to pursue a bachelor’s degree in dietetics, where she studied not only the chemistry of food but how our bodies use it. She went on to earn an MBA, combining her love of food with her love of business.

After several years caught up in the busyness of life, Cindy’s focus returned to food when one of her dogs, Manny, became extremely ill. Her veterinarian tried many things, none of which helped. Out of desperation, she changed his diet to pure, unprocessed food she cooked herself- and he quickly began to improve.

Around the same time, Cindy began facing her own health struggles — digestive issues, body aches, fatigue, joint pain, and severe headaches. She was diagnosed with gluten intolerance, and later with breast cancer.

Watching Manny recover on nothing more than a change of diet reawakened Cindy’s nutrition background. She started paying closer attention to what goes into our food — highly processed and fast foods, gluten-free products with their own additives, and ingredients grown with pesticides or genetically modified.

“Why are so many people suddenly having trouble with gluten?” she wondered. She hadn’t growing up, and neither had her parents or grandparents. Her research kept pointing to the same place: many people who react to American wheat can enjoy pasta and bread in Europe without the same trouble. After much effort, she finally got her hands on some European flour, tried it — and lo and behold, she loved it.

As a breast cancer survivor, Cindy knows how much the choices we make matter. For her, it starts with being thoughtful about what goes into her body and the ingredients she chooses. She hopes you’ll join her in this next chapter — discovering fun new recipes and the growing family of Manny’s Choice products, made with clean, simple ingredients and a whole lot of care.
