Manny’s Choice Irish Soda Bread
Ingredients
Dough
- 4 cup Manny’s Choice Flour
- 1/2 cup butter
- 4 tbsp sugar
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 ea egg
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
To Top the Loaf
- 1/4 cup buttermilk
- 1/2 cup butter
Instructions
- Make the dough: In a large mixing bowl combine Manny’s Choice Flour, softened butter, baking soda, salt, sugar, and baking powder. Mix thoroughly and then stir in the egg and buttermilk. Continue mixing all the ingredients until dough forms.
- Shape the loaf: First, preheat the oven to 375 °F. Then, place the dough onto a floured surface. Next, knead the dough for two minutes. It is normal for the dough to be slightly sticky. Lastly, shape the dough into a round shape and place it onto a greased baking sheet.
- Top the loaf and bake: In a small bowl melt ¼ cup of butter. Next, add the buttermilk to the melted butter and stir to combine. Then, generously brush the top of the loaf with the butter mixture before baking it in the oven. When the oven is preheated, bake the bread for 45-50 minutes. A toothpick will come out clean when placed in the center of the loaf when it is done. Finally, brush the bread with another ¼ cup of butter and let cool.
- Enjoy!
